Benicia State Recreation Area Pollinator Enhancement Project
The purpose of this project is to enchance pollinator and wildlife habitat in areas that were previously dominated by invasive species
Weed Control: An effort to control invasive fennel and annual grasses will continue through 2027
Tree and Shrub Plantings: A diversity of native shrubs and trees will be planted in clusters along trails. These will be mulched and receive supplemental irrigation for up to two years. Some scattered plantings may occur off of irrigation in other areas.
Seeding: A variety of native wildflowers and grasses will be seeded in the winter of 2026 or 2027.
Pollinator Pods: Plots of native perennial wildflowers will be planted and mulched in 2025 and 2026. These plots will include a diversity of species beneficial to pollinators and other wildlife.
