Suisun Marsh Watershed & Wetland

Education Program

Generous support from the Solano County Water Agency enable 6th grade students in Solano County to take part in the Suisun Marsh Watershed & Wetland Education Program. The program is built around a full-day field trip to Solano Land Trust’s Rush Ranch Nature Center, where students participate in a variety of activities, including  a poster session on endangered species, threatened species, and species of concern and a rotation through three hands-on learning stations covering the marsh's soil, water, and plants.

After lunch, students take a nature hike through the Rush Ranch property, finding a perfect spot to write poetry about their experiences in marsh. Back in the classroom, students solidify what they’ve learned about marine debris and complete an evaluation exercise. Professional environmental educators from Solano and Suisun RCD lead two pre-field trip classroom lessons to help students prepare for the field trip, guide the experience at the marsh, and then lead the post-field trip recap and evaluation lesson.
